WHY ARCHITECTURE?
Architecture is the art, practice, and science of designing and constructing buildings and spaces. It is the spaces which leave you awestruck, the immense monuments to the history of civilisation, but also the day-to-day of how you live and navigate through the world.
Architecture is part of our everyday understanding of and sense of being the world - whether consciously or subconsciously, it affects every one of us.
As we grapple with climate change, population increases, housing crises and the potential of life on Mars, architectural thinking is increasingly valuable.
The limits and methods of architecture are constantly changing and extending. We need architecture to deal with new scenarios: new materials and construction methods, desire for small, efficient & inspiring homes, digital drawing methods, robot-led construction processes and the need for immediate shelter able to be constructed by locals after major disasters.
Studying architecture is more than learning how a traditional house goes together, it's discovering and developing a series of skills and tools which enable you to engage - critically, creatively and practically - with these new, exciting, and important issues as they arise.
“Space and light and order. Those are the things that men need just as much as they need bread or a place to sleep.”
Whatever your path in architecture, it's sure to be full of challenges, and rewards.
the more you're prepared to give, the more you'll get back.
